[SP]OILED LANDSCAPES

September 13, 2017 By admin

September 2017 – Performance – Van Gogh Museum

Coinciding with “In The Forest”, an exhibition that celebrates the painter’s love of nature and his search for unspoiled landscapes, 20 performers enact an oil-soaked, dried-up, burnt-down forest. They whisper the culprit’s name, crescendo to a windstorm: “Shell spoils landscapes… Shell spoils landscapes…”

Their broken umbrellas bring the storms that ravage the earth to the place it gets artwashed. Fossil Free Culture NL confronts the Van Gogh Museum with an ethical choice about its social responsibility:

How can they purport to cherish culture while accepting money from a company that destroys nature?
