Who we are
This website, fossilfreeculture.nl, is run by Stichting Fossil Free Culture NL, a foundation based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy.
- Chamber of Commerce (KvK): 70430217
- RSIN: 858314800
- Email: contact@fossilfreeculture.nl
We are a small foundation of artists and activists. We collect as little about you as we can. We do not run advertising and we never sell personal data.
What we collect and why
We only hold personal data that you give us yourself or that is needed to run the website.
| When | What we hold | Why | Legal ground |
|---|---|---|---|
| You visit the website | Technical data such as IP address, browser type and pages viewed | To keep the site running and secure, and to count visits | Our legitimate interest in a working, safe website; your consent where cookies are involved |
| You subscribe to the newsletter | Your email address | To send you our newsletter and news about our activities | Your consent |
| You fill in the volunteering form | Email address, first name, last name and what you tell us about your motivation | To contact you about getting involved | Your consent |
| You email us | Your name, email address and the content of your message | To answer you | Our legitimate interest in replying to messages |
| You donate by bank transfer | Your name, account number and the amount, as shown on our bank statement | To administer donations and meet our tax obligations | Legal obligation |
| You ordered from our former webshop | Name, address and order details | Financial records we are required to keep | Legal obligation |
What you write in the volunteering form may say something about your political views. We treat it as confidential, use it only to get in touch with you, and share it with nobody outside the foundation. Your answers are stored in our contact list at Infomaniak Newsletter, which sends you an email to confirm your address. Filling in this form does not subscribe you to our newsletter; you only receive it if you choose to.
The webshop closed in 2026. We no longer take orders or online payments throgh this website.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies, and none for advertising of our own.
- Necessary cookies keep the site working and remember your cookie choice. These are always on.
- Statistics cookies help us count visits and see which pages are read. We use Jetpack Stats for this.
- Embedded content: most of our performance pages show videos hosted on YouTube, which belongs to Google. YouTube may set its own cookies when a video loads or plays.
When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice. You can accept, refuse or choose per category, and change your mind at any time through the cookie settings button on the site.
Who else handles your data
We share personal data only with the services we need to run the website, and with nobody else unless the law requires it.
| Service | What it does for us | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Infomaniak | Hosts the website and our email and files | Switzerland |
| Infomaniak Newsletter | Stores newsletter subscribers and volunteering form answers, and sends the newsletter | Switzerland |
| Jetpack, by Automattic | Visitor statistics | United States |
| Wordfence, by Defiant | Protects the site against attacks, which involves checking visitors’ IP addresses | United States |
| CookieYes | Shows the cookie banner and records your choice | United Kingdom |
| YouTube, by Google | Hosts the videos shown on our performance pages | United States |
Some of these companies are outside the European Union. Where that is the case, the transfer rests on a safeguard recognised by EU law, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data no longer than we need it.
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Newsletter email address | Until you unsubscribe |
| Volunteering form answers | Up to 12 months after our last contact, if you do not become involved |
| Emails you send us | Up to 2 years after the conversation ends |
| Donation and former webshop records | 7 years, the period Dutch tax law requires for financial records |
| Visitor statistics and security logs | As set by the service that holds them; we do not keep our own copies |
Your rights
You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted. Under European privacy law (the GDPR) you also have the right to:
- withdraw a consent you gave, for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter
- object to our use of your data, or ask us to limit it
- receive your data in a form you can take elsewhere
Email contact@fossilfreeculture.nl and we will answer within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Changes and contact
We update this policy when the website or the way we work changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
