On the 12th of April 2025 we warmly welcomed the new directors of the Groninger Museum (GM) with a score. Finding inspiration in the Fluxus movement, an interdisciplinary community of artists active half a century ago, we used one of their most famous artistic forms: the score – a performance art script.
Hammer Event
Performer walks into the museum and starts hitting a wall with a hammer. When asked to stop they promise to use a softer hammer in the future. Continues hitting the wall with the same hammer.
Flyers with this score were handed out to visitors at the entrance of the GM. The hammerer in the score imitates the malign playbook of the fossil fuel industry: destroying our physical and cultural home and, when asked to stop, promising insignificant betterments while continuing business as usual. What really needs to be broken however, are the bonds of the GM with the fossil gas industry. We hope that the new directors will take this little welcome to heart and #breakupwithgas!
