A limited-edition series by Fossil Free Culture NL: three items that together make up a full set for a do-it-yourself disobedient art performance: a bottle of fake oil, a stained scallop shell and a one-person banner.
The DIY Disobedience Kit 3 is a banner for one pair of hands. It carries the words End the Fossil Fuel Age Now, running from top to bottom, and it’s made the way we made the banners for our performance of that name in the Van Gogh Museum: printed paper, light enough to carry in under a coat, and impossible to ignore once it’s unrolled. A wooden stick at the top and one at the bottom keep it straight, and the top one reaches out on both sides so you can hold it up. It’s paper, so it’s a little fragile. That’s part of it: a banner that asks to be handled with care. Watch how the banners came down in the museum, and take it from there.
Printed paper, black and white, with two wooden sticks. About 100 cm long and 50 cm wide
Warning: institutions do not appreciate fossil fuel spelled out on their walls, only in their budgets.
